This week we will meet Ms. V in her Vegetable Vest, practice phonics and continue rhyming.  We will play rhyming games, the Cat in the Hat game on the computer, and read lots and lots of Dr. Seuss books.  If you would like to help us celebrate any day this week, by reading a book please just come in!  The children love to hear different people reading and I have many of the Dr. Seuss books in the classroom.

On Friday we will make our famous Dr. Seuss hats and the children will spend lots of time enjoying books.

Please remember to look in your child's Book Buddy everyday for important papers that come home from school and from class.  It is very important that you know what is going on because that is the only way your child will be able to participate in school-wide events.

A big event coming up is the Spell Check.  Transitional Kindergarten students will be taking a spelling test on 20 words.  The list has been sent home.  Please practice the words with your child and return the pledge sheet.  Help our school!

Ms. U lights the way as a letter light, or vowel, letter.  We learn about the vowels and how every word must contain a vowel letter.  You can practice the vowel letters by letting your child spell out words such as, cup, pup, up, but, cut, sun, fun, and run.  This can be practiced with all of the vowels.  It will help your child learn rhyming words, which we are still working on through the reading of Dr. Seuss books and classroom games.

We will work in our math journals on patterns, simple addition and telling time to the hour.  We will also continue math games and exploring with manipulatives and playdough (to form numbers and to count objects).

Remember that we have assembly every Friday morning so be sure to arrive by 8:00 a.m.!

Report cards and parent teacher conferences will take place in the month of March.

Meet Ms. T and her tall teeth!  This is a perfect week to talk about dental health (especially near Valentine's Day) and to reinforce the sound of /T/.  As always we are working on articulation of the letter sound as well as recognizing the beginning sound of words that begin with /t/ and the correct formation of the letter.

In math we will continue to work in our journals, play math games reinforcing counting and classifying and utilize our many math manipulatives to explore the concept of "more than" and "less than."

We will be creating special Valentine's Day bags to take home our Valentines on Thursday and be sure to be on the lookout for a special sign-up email from Tanya about our class party on Thursday.  Thanks Tanya!

Thank you to Jonas, Julian, Bryce, Reagan, Tom and Jason for sending in the fabric for our class quilt.  All had time on Friday to share their fabric and show it to the class.  Remember to bring in all fabric this week so Angela can get started making the quilt which will be sold at the Silent Auction in May.

It was fun to see so many of you at the Topanga Dad's Pancake Breakfast this morning.  It was a fun and delicious morning and all of the children looked like they were having so much fun.

Just a reminder that on Fridays, we start at 8:00 a.m. in order to attend the school-wide assembly!  Be at school at 8:00 a.m.

A big thank you to all of our class volunteers from classroom help to Art Trek to putting up and taking down chairs--everything helps and makes Room K a wonderful place.

With gratitude,
Mrs. W.

Ms. S:  Everyone Loves a Superhero!

Why do children love Superheros so much?  Well, the idea of having a super power is enchanting for little children who often feel powerless in a world controlled by adults.  Superhero fantasy play lets children imagine having some of that coveted control.
This week we will continue our wonderful rhyming words by playing rhyming games and reading lots of Dr. Seuss books.  If you would like to come in and read any morning, just let me know.  The children love to have different people reading and if more than one person shows up, we can divide the class in half, which is even better considering our large group!

The big excitement this week is the 100th Day of School on Tuesday.  We have been counting days since August and will celebrate with counting, crafts and a special treat that I will bring in.  Please join us for any part of the fun.

I hope you all enjoyed the Art Gallery exhibit.  I think our class artwork was fantastic! A big thanks again to those who helped out.

Our next project is the class quilt, which Angela is heading up.  Be sure to bring your fabric in as soon as possible.  Remember all children will share on the same day, this Friday, so we can get going on the quilt making. This quilt will be auctioned off during the live auction part of the the school-wide Silent Auction!

This Sunday, February 10th will be the famous Topanga Dad's Pancake Breakfast.  You won't want to miss this good excuse to skip cooking and let the dads take charge.  Yum!  See you there!

Thank you all for helping to make Room K the special place that it is.
