This week we will meet another vowel letter; Ms. U.  She has two sounds (long and short) and we will practice forming words with a short medial /u/ vowel.  We will also practice writing and are beginning to gather ideas to write our own fairy tale books.  We are talking about characters, setting, plot (beginning, middle and end).   We will read our Let's Find Out! magazine about Dr. Seuss and we continue to read the many Dr. Seuss books I have in class.

If you would like to be a "guest reader" in honor of Read Across America/Dr. Seuss' birthday, please let me know.  Any morning except Friday will work at 8:15.

Friday we will have a special assembly to see the Vocabulary Parade in the auditorium.  This is presented by 3-5th grade.

I look forward to meeting with those who have signed up for parent conferences.  If you did not sign up, report cards and test data will be sent home Friday.

I hope you all enjoyed the Art Galley show.  A huge thank you to Amy again, for her hard work and dedication helping the children create a beautiful art piece and for both Amy and Dana for taking on the task of framing all of the art.

Remember:  Early dismissal all we for parent conferences!

Monday:  Let's Find Out! magazine
Tuesday:  Speech & Language, P.E.
Wednesday:  Art
Thursday:  P.E., Second Step, Shelter in Place drill

Speech & Language:  This week we will practice the sound of /K/.  We will make clocks and our snack of clementines will be provided by Lyla.
I hope everyone had a restful and fun President's Day weekend.

Our Topanga Elementary Charter School Art Gallery show will begin this week on Tuesday with a reception on Saturday the 24th.  Thank you Amy Terranova for helping the children to create beautiful art!

This week we will meet Ms. T and her tall teeth.  This is a helpful reminder that February is dental health month and we hope all children have developed the practice of brushing their teeth regularly and being checked by a dentist.  We will continue to learn about American symbols and George Washington, whose birthday is this week. We will continue practicing math, counting by 5s, 10s and 20s.  We are also continuing to work on patterns, addition and subtraction.

In Physical Education we will be practicing balancing, catching and throwing.  In Science we will study reptiles.

Our Schedule:
Monday:  President's Day-no school
Tuesday:  Speech & Language, P.E., Let's Find Out! magazine
Wednesday:  Art Trek, Yoga, Council
Thursday:  P.E., Second Step
Friday:  Planet Bravo, Homework Review, Sharing, Science

Remember next week is Parent Conference week for optional parent conferences and report cards will be given out or sent home.  A sign up sheet will be emailed soon.

We need a parent to create a Room K memory book  This can easily be done on our Shutterfly site with the many photos we have there.  If you are interested, I have the Memory Books from many of my classes so you can look through them and get ideas.  It would be a good idea to begin now and then add in the future activities so the book can be finished and ordered by May.  The children like to have it the last week of school to look through and to remember all of the fun we had (and are having) this year.  Please contact me if you feel able and willing to do this.  It is a great project to do from home for those unable to regularly volunteer in class.

Thank you to all of our wonderful classroom volunteers for helping with so many activities and helping the children in Room K (and me too)!
Mrs. W.

Speaking of superheros, as we have been, the appearance of Ms. S in her super socks is a great way for our students to remember that it is our positive thoughts that turn us into superheros!

We will continue learning about transportation and practicing our reading with sight words and words we can sound out.  The children are getting inspired to read with our question of the day.  We continue to practice writing in our journals, practice perfect printing in our Handwriting Without Tears and enjoying our small group instruction during reading groups.  A big thanks to the parent volunteers that help to make this possible.

We had a great science hike up to the amphitheater with our science hike volunteers Mary, Jesse, Adriana and Donal for helping the children make bird feeders using recycled materials.. Photos can be found on our private class site.

Thank you Amy for helping the children create lovely art for our upcoming Art Gallery display and a future Silent Auction Art!  The kids had a great time!

We have a full schedule this week so please stay up to date!
