We have now been in school for 112 days. The children continue to work on developing the "Three Bs": Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Safe. You can help your child develop these important skills by continuing to create a home atmosphere that complements the school rules and responsibilities. Some suggestions are:
*set aside a special place for your child to keep his/her backpack and school work
*send a healthy snack and lunch that your child can easily eat independently
*keep the lines of communication open between school and home
*read our class website, blog and calendar to keep updated about class activities
*reinforce the school rules in your home and expect the same behavior and enforce consequences if your child is disrespectful.
The children feel sad when they are unprepared for class, forget their share, have incomplete homework, etc. At this age, the parents play an important role in developing these lifelong habits that will help your child become a responsible student. Kindergarten sets the stage for your child's education career. Raise your expectations for your child!
From now on, all Homework Backpacks will be due on Thursday! This will give me more time to check the backpacks and be sure that they are complete and ready to take home on Friday. This week return the Backpack no later than Thursday morning!
We are missing 3 Homework Backpacks. If you did not turn yours in by last Friday, another student did not get to take one home and your child did not get to take a new backpack home. This process develops responsibility in both your student and your household. These are school skills that will be needed for the next 12+ years and will also be reflected in report card grades. Please take the time to help your child organize his/her study area.
The Sharing assignments are listed on our website as well as PDFs of all Homework Backpack worksheets. The class calendar has sharing days listed listed. Please note that we will have no school on April 1st, so sharing has been moved to Thursday that week.
You are your child's first teacher and will continue to have a major impact on your child's success. Please provide pencils, crayons, colored pencils, scissors and glue. If you do not have these supplies, please see me immediately and I will provide them for your child's study area at home!
Other important reminders:
If it is raining, if at all possible, send a lunch with your child so he/she does not have to walk up to the cafeteria in the pouring rain and get soaking wet! On rainy days we eat in our classroom. Also, please provide rain boots, regular classroom shoes, rain coats and umbrellas. I will do my best to keep your child dry and healthy.
I would like to know that everyone is reading this blog so please comment that you have read and understand the expectations.
Thank you!
