Additionally we will talk about Community Helpers and different jobs in the community.

During math time we will begin our November Math Journal.  We are also beginning a something new:  Math Daily Pages.  These are daily lessons that reinforce a variety of math skills.  They are designed to be a book but I will send home the pages daily so you can all be aware of what we are learning in class.

This week we will meet Mr. H with his "happy hair."  We will practice writing /H,h/ correctly and study the sound of /H/ using our Letter-Sound Journals, our Letter People coloring page and word page, using Starfall and our listening center.  The children are learning to work at each learning station (about 15 minutes long) and to improve focus.  I am seeing improved writing and coloring so our hard work is paying off!

Our new sight words are "you" and "can."  We will be talking about what makes a place a community.  Topanga is such a special community with many examples you can share with your child.  There are so many community events, places where the community gathers, and community groups.

Thank you!  A big thank you must go to our wonderful chaperones from Friday's field trip to the Theatricum.  It was a magical day and the children had such a good time learning acting, dancing, singing and stage combat.  They enjoyed the performance of Ferdinand and the Bull.  Thank you Amy, Jesse, Reneé, Greg, Georgie, Dana, Joanna, and Olga.  Thanks to Gabriel for taking photos which will be posted to our Shutterfly site.

A big thank you to Greg and his team for our Room K Halloween Carnival booth.  Be sure to post pictures of the event on our Shutterfly site!

Our schedule this week will be:
Monday:  Dance, Buddies
Tuesday:  Speech & Language, P.E.
Wednesday:  Art Trek, Yoga, Council
Thursday:  P.E., Second Step
Friday:  Morning Assembly, Planet Bravo, Homework Review, Sharing, Science Hike (make up from last week)

I spent most of the weekend tackling the new report cards which will be ready to share with you during parent conferences taking place in a couple of weeks.

Thank you all for your positive spirit and involvement in our Room K activities.  Have a great week!

Sharing:  The Winnie-the-Poohs will share this week (at 8:15 due to our field trip).

Remember our field trip is this Friday.  I only received 3 chaperone slips on the due date, Friday.  We need at least 2 more chaperones.

This week we will meet Ms. G who loves gum!  Help your child think of words that begin with the sound of hard /G/ and soft /G/.  We will continue to learn about Communities & Health in our reading program, including healthy choices.  Help your child become independent by assisting them in making healthy choices for their lunch and snack.  Remind them to wash their hands with soap and water, and let them learn how to brush their own teeth and hair.  All of these independent activities build confidence and support our learning theme.
New high frequency words:  here, are, we.

We are moving on to number 9 in math.  Of course we address many other math concepts but learning to form the numbers correctly and reinforce one-to-one correspondence is an important kindergarten skill.

This week we will make Halloween arts and crafts projects that focus on the fine motor skills of cutting and drawing.

Thursday is our Shake drill.  Please discuss this with your child so they will have a better understanding of the drill process.  We will be discussing it in class too.

Monday:  let's Find Out! magazine, Dance, Buddies
Tuesday:  Speech & Language, P.E.
Wednesday:  Miss Sammantha's birthday!  Halloween Art, Yoga, Council
Thursday:  Brown Day,  Shake Drill, Second Step
Friday:  Winnie-the-Pooh Sharing (8:15), Field Trip to the Theatricum

Thank you so much for all of your help and support for Room K!

This week we will meet Ms. F who has "funny feet."  We will practice the sound of  /F/ and practice writing it too.  I hope the children have been singing the letter songs we have been learning along with our reading series.  They are very enthusiastic about the songs and the movements that go along with them.  We are also learning sight words:  is, the, this, a, and I.  This week we will begin Unit 3, Communities and Health.  We will be learning about neighborhoods and community workers.

Our math will include sorting & classifying in addition to patterns, and addition.  We will work in our Alphabet Journals, Draw and Write Journals, rhyming books and Handwriting Without Tears workbooks.  We will utilize multimedia including listening center, computers, and reading games.  We will read our Let's Find Out! magazine which touches on themes of science and social studies.

This week we will meet Ms. E who loves to exercise, just like our students!  Did you know our Room K kids love taking movement breaks with GoNoodle?  You can find it at home and your children can use is at this address:   https://www.gonoodle.com/  We have also been singing with Heidi Songs, which I can access through our Benchmark reading series site.
We will continue our multi-modality approach learning the letters and sounds through games, songs, Alphabet Journal writing, rhyming books, listening center, computer software and Handwriting Without Tears.  Variety is necessary for the children but so is structure, so we have a routine using all of these forms of learning.  I am amazed at the speed the children are learning and it is a joy to watch them complete their work and move through our four reading centers each day.

Our math program allows for differentiation and variety through computer software, small guided lessons, whole group lessons, math games and individual reinforcement.  Have your children been chanting the correct ways to write the numbers?  Ask them to tell you how to make a number and see if they can remember the chants we've learned in class!

A huge thank you to those of you who have been able to help in the classroom and/or by taking things home to prepare.  We will have lots of opportunities as we enter this fun Halloween month!  Remember to turn in your field trip permission slips and your mid-semester reports if you haven't already.

This week:
Monday:  Let's Find Out! magazine, Dance, Buddies
Tuesday:  Speech & Language, P.E.
Wednesday:  Art, Yoga, Council
Thursday:  Pink Day!, P.E., begin Second Step (an empathy development program)
Friday:  Morning Assembly, Planet Bravo, Homework Review, Sharing (Piglets), Science (our 5 Senses)

It was so wonderful to see so many of you at our class dinner at Kelly & Clint's house.  I really enjoyed getting to know all better.  Thank you for all of your support!
