"There are many little ways to enlarge your child's world.  Love of books is best of all."  --Jacqueline Kennedy

Meet Ms. L with the longest laugh.  In our Letter People scrapbook you will see Ms. L with her lovely lemon lollypops.  We are almost half-way through the alphabet now and the Room K kids are learning to look for the letters and sounds in our new words on the Word Wall.  You can help your child look for letters and words at home and as they ride in the car.

In math we will be working in our Math Journals and playing math games to practice counting and one-to-one correspondence.

We will begin practicing with our music teacher Mr. Parmele, on Monday mornings for our upcoming Holiday Program. Be sure to save the date, December 14th at either the 8:30 or 10:30 show (or both!).  Be sure to get there early to get a good seat.

We only have 3 weeks of school until our Winter Break and we will be busy making presents for our families, creating holiday decorations, singing our holiday songs.  We will be having a Holiday Party on December 13th from 12:30-1:30.  If you would like to help create the party, contribute food, cook latkes or help with cookie decorating, please contact Tanya or Diane, our party parents!

Upcoming dates:

11/30-Wear your Super TK Shirt for our 8:00 morning assembly!

12/3-70th Day of School-Wear your Tie Dye Shirt!

12/13-Holiday Party (12:30)

12/14-Holiday Program in the Auditorium (8:30/10:30)

"Teachers teach because they care.  Teaching young people is what they do best.  It requires long hours, patience, and care."  --Horance Mann

I thought that this quote was appropriate for this long week of parent conferences.  I will be meeting with all of you and have appointments scheduled until 4:00 each day.  I look forward to sharing information and working out a plan to best help your child succeed this yea both academically and socially.  Education is a collaborative effort and we will work together to have the school and home be supportive to your child.  This is a year of learning for parents and children and is a cornerstone to the school success and social success of your child.  I have told the children that it doesn't matter how well you do your classwork if you are not following the 3 B's (be safe, be responsible, be respectful) you will not be a successful student.  The classroom is a collaborative place of learning.

Ms. K and her Kaboom Kick is a great inspiration.  She always tries her best to help her team by kicking the soccer ball.  In Room K, we are a team and each one of us must try his/her best so that we can all succeed as a team.

Some of our special events this week are a special Art Show Project that the entire school will be creating this Friday.  Our class will be working on this from 9:00-9:20 on Friday.  We will also be completing a project for the Gallery Show.  We have started by painting the background of the canvases and Kim (Jack's mom) will be heading up this project with the help of Tanya (Emma's mom).  These unique pieces of art will be shown in the Topanga Gallery in January.  You will have the first option to purchase your child's artwork!

Remember-dismissal is 1:35 for the entire week, followed by the Thanksgiving Break week.  Have a wonderful time with your family!

Jingle along with "Ms. J" and her jingle-jangle jacket and enjoy the sneak peek YouTube video.  This week we will be talking about this letter and reviewing the previous letters we have learned.  All children have been assessed on their letter knowledge to prepare for report cards and I am looking forward to sharing all of this with you next week at Parent Conferences.

Please take a look at our "vote" bulletin board.  We have been learning about American symbols and the election process.  Take your children to vote with you

In our science class we will be exploring measurement during the month of November and December.  The students will learn to use a ruler properly and you can practice at home.  The vocabulary will be:
ruler
inches
shortest
longest

The students will be creating a "scientist" image of themselves.  They will decorate their lab coats with vocabulary labels they will earn by telling Ms. Monks the definition of the word.  These scientists will be displayed in our window for all to see!

I would like to give a huge thank you to all of the wonderful parent volunteers who have been helping so much with creating our class garden.  This is so exciting and is always a favorite activity with the children.  Thank you, thank you!

The children are really becoming amazing artists thanks to our Art Trek (paid for by TEP) program and our wonderful art volunteer teachers.  You can see the display in the window right now.

I would like to remind everyone that we need 100% participation in the TEP Love Fund by December.  Is anyone willing to get the word out to our parents?  You don't have to give all at once for our class to qualify.  Let's do it!!!
