This week we will start our regular school schedule: Monday, Wednesday,-8:15-2:40, Friday-8:00-2:40, Tuesday and Thursday-8:15-1:35. Please arrive and park 10 minutes before dismissal to arrive to the class for pick up on time. It helps children feel secure to know their parents or caretakers will be there on time. Children who are not picked up at dismissal must wait in the school office.
We are beginning assessments this week. I will assess each child individually using a computer program called ESGI, Educational Software for Guiding Instruction. This program will give me accurate information about each child's knowledge of letters, sounds, colors, numbers, and shapes. I add separate tests for each area. You will get a printout of the results and I will be able to form learning groups based on the results.
We will be continuing our Handwriting Without Tears program More information about this program can be found on this website under the "More" drop down menu. During math time we will be using manipulatives to explore the concepts of patterns, sorting and puzzles. Puzzles are great for young children and provide many learning opportunities. On Wednesdays we have our Outdoor Classroom lesson which takes place in the garden or in our play yard. On Thursdays from 12:45-1:30 we have Yoga and Council. More information can be found at the links on this website under the "More" drop down menu.
We are very lucky in Room K to have our aide Miss Amber who has worked with me for many years. She is in class each day from 8:30-11:30, and on lunch supervision most days until 12:30. She assists with groups, supervision at recess and lunch and is a great asset to our classroom.
Please be sure to sign up for the volunteer trainings and turn in your TB test results. Classroom Volunteers start next week and we need your help! I have sent you all a link to the Volunteer Sign-Up Google Document, which you can self-edit. If you did not get an email from me, send me an email and I will confirm that I have your correct email address.
Enrichment will begin next week. We will have Science on Monday, P.E. on Wednesday (wear appropriate shoes!) and Library on Friday. In addition, Room K students will have a special Speech and Language class taught by our fabulous Speech teacher, Miss. Youmna. Children will focus on one letter sound each week and will make a craft and have a related snack. There will be a snack sign up document sent to you shortly. If you have any questions, please send me an email., blog comments are welcome, and be sure to sign up for the RSS feed for future notifications!
Best wishes,
Mrs. W.
