We have been busy learning in Room K and I am sure you have heard about some of our learning experiences, such as Patterns, in Math, and Mat Man in our Handwriting Without Tears program. Our day is filled with stories and the rituals we are creating in our Classroom Family. Every child has a job each week and the jobs are rotated on Mondays. They take their jobs seriously and do very well.
We have posted the family pictures you have contributed and also our "friends" pictures showing the many activities we enjoy together at school. We are working on creating a loving, learning environment based on mutual respect. This entails following our class rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. Please reinforce this at home.
The children are becoming competent computer navigators mainly on the Starfall website, which has many activities for reading and math. We are working in our Rhyming Books, Journals and Science Journals. Feel free to look at these books in you child's "tub" if you are in the classroom to gain insight into your child's progress.
I have assessed all of the children using the Dynamic Indicator of Basic Literacy Skills (DIBELS). That is required by the District, however I have another, more detailed assessment I will be starting next week on the ESGI website (Educational Software for Guiding Instruction). This assessment, done on the computer or iPad, will give you a detailed report of what your child knows in alphabet and number skills. I am also assessing printing skills.
We will have Parent/Teacher conferences in early December and I will share all of this information with you. If you have concerns about your child's progress, please contact me for an early conference.
