This week we will meet Mr. R-who has rainbow ribbons.  He has a "brother" who is a rascal!  Can your child draw a rainbow and think of some words that begin with 'r' to write on the page?  These extra-credit letter assignments really help your child appreciate the home-school connection and reinforce learning.

We have almost reached the 100th day of school, which is a big celebration in TK/Kindergarten.  It will be Monday, February 2.  I will be sending home a special bag for the children to put their collection of 100 (of the same type) items.  These will be due on the 100th day, when each child will have the opportunity to share what they brought in.  Some suggestions are:  coins, toothpicks, q-tips, cotton balls, deflated balloons, pompoms, gems, and leaves.  I am sure you and your child will be able to think of many other creative items.  We will also make special 100th day crowns.  I will bring in a small treat for the children.

This week we will focus on our language arts writing.  We have a new writing center with sentence structure books for the children to use to write sentences.  We are practicing punctuation marks (. ? !) too.

A big focus this second semester is to stay focused on "work" and to complete work neatly within the time allowed for each center.  During reading groups, the children have 12-15 minutes at each center.  Most children are doing an excellent job staying focused and completing work within the time frame.  This is a very important work habit to develop and will be necessary for your child's entire school career.  There are many distractions in class and at home while completing homework.  It is important for children to learn to tune out distractions and to focus on the task.  You can help your child practice this at home by setting limits and encouraging your child to work, eat, clean-up their room, etc. within a time frame.

Coming up:
TECS Art Gallery Reception-1/30 after school
Kindergarten singing at the morning assembly 2/6-8:00 AM (Bring your cameras!)
Field trip to Moorpark Animal College 2/6
Valentine's Day Celebration-2/13 (Party parents will plan this)
