Sharing: This week the Tiggers will share since we were not at school for their share day. Also, anyone who did not have an opportunity to share in October is encouraged to complete their share assignment this Friday.
Color Day: This week's color is gray. We will wear gray on Thursday, which is also our field trip day!
This week we will meet Mr. H and his happy hair. We will practice the sound of H and practice writing both capital and lowercase Hh. The children are doing well using the Lexia program and I appreciate your commitment your child's reading development by encouraging a few minutes of Lexia at home each day. I have printed the earned certificates as well as Skill Builder lessons as well as some practice pages for you to work on at home. This is in addition to our classroom lessons of course. In class we use games and manipulatives to reinforce letter writing and formation, practice letter sounds and begin to build words. Some children are already reading and we are expanding on their skills by offering differentiated instruction, taking time to read with individual children and encouraging partner reading.
We have been spending a lot of time on social-emotional skills in Room K, as they are the foundation for school success. Our Second Step lessons introduce and reinforce expected school behavior such as using your eyes, ears and brain when you listen to instructions. Following the rules: eyes watching, ears listening, voice quiet, body still and of course the Three B's! It is really imperative that you reinforce these skills at home. Children have a difficult time separating the times and places behaviors are acceptable. It is often confusing for children when school rules are not supported after school dismisses, especially when children are still on campus. We attempt to have school be a place of both structured learning and also a fun learning environment where all learners are honored and respected.
This week we will begin our bimonthly art lessons with our new VAPA art teacher. We are excited to begin this program!
Please let me know if you were able to access the Planet Bravo computer games on this site. I included the directions on last week's post.
Our field trip is this Thursday! We will be leaving school at 9, but if you are a chaperone, please plan on staying after drop-off to escort students to the restrooms and organize snacks and lunches. We will be back at school by 1:00 to avoid congestion on School Road during pick up.
Remember:
Bring an easy to eat, non-messy snack.
Bring a lunch with a water bottle (labeled)
Have your child wear a sweatshirt (labeled) as the mornings are cool, safe closed-toe shoes, socks.
We will be outdoors all day, so apply sunscreen. Chaperones are valued and appreciated! Please let me know asap, if you haven't already, if you will be able to help us chaperone the field trip.
Thank you for all of your help and support in Room K! We love our volunteers!
Best wishes,
Amy Weisberg
