This week our Speech & Language Sound will be Final /g/. We will make flags and our snack, Bugs on a Log (celery with cream cheese & raisins) will be provided by Winston!

Sharing (on Friday):  Piglets.  The assignment can be found under the "more" tab on the website..  I will send home the Thankful Book Tuesday.

This is Miss A.  You can find her YouTube video here.  When Miss A sneezes, she makes the sound of short /a/.  We will be working in our Letter People Binders this week coloring Miss A and drawing and labeling pictures of words that begin with the sound of /a/.  We will continue emphasizing a new letter each week as part of our language arts program.  We will learn to read and write words and to form the letter correctly in our Get Set for School printing practice book.

This week we will have Speech & Language, P.E., Library, Planet Bravo (computer instruction).  Be sure to ask your child if they had a special activity!

I would like to explain the Raz-Kids Program a little bit. You have all been given access and I am happy to see that some children have already logged on.  In order to get the most out of the program, please have your child follow these steps:

Open the Assignment section on your child's home page.

1.  Listen to a book
2.  Practice reading the book (to an adult)
3.  Record your child reading the book (this is part of the program and can be done on either a computer or iPad.  I will be able to listen to your child reading from home!).
4.  Have your child listen to him/herself reading the book while following along in the book.
5.  Take the quiz (be sure to go all the way to the last page of the quiz in order to get you stars).

I can view all of these steps from my computer.  I can generate progress reports and award extra stars as well as send messages.  You will see that there is a message when the satellite on your child's homepage looks like it is sending out a signal.  Your child can use the awarded stars to buy items for the rocket and the robot.

Don't worry if your child is just learning letters, they will quickly pick up some basic site words with this program and be very motivated to learn to read letters and practice sounds.  If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email, or stop in at school and I can show you on the computer at school.

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to help your child get off to a great start reading!

Thank You:

Thank you to those of you who attended the Parent Volunteer training!  It was great having you in class this week helping the children.  I am looking forward to more parents in the classroom.  Please attend this Friday and become an official TECS Volunteer!

A big thank you to the families that have donated to our Donors Choose project. Our project was fully funded in 1 week and the materials are on the way!  Since we have $200 in gift cards in the account, I will be creating a garden project with Tristan's mom, Carolyn, our garden parent.  We are excited to create a fantastic Room K garden and can use the funds to purchase needed supplies!

Reminders:

Please be sure to return all missing paperwork.  An email was sent out last week to remind those who were missing items.  The office requires that I collect all paperwork and turn it in.

Homework will be considered correct if all items on the included rubric have been completed.  Please help your child to be successful but checking off each item as it is completed.  This includes the fine-motor practice of coloring each and every item on both sides of the page.  Thank you for your help with this. All children like to feel successful!

The Treasure Box
In Room K I have a treasure box that I open on Fridays.  It is filled with toys that are donated, or bought by me.  I use the treasure box to allow each child to recognize what a great job they did in school all week, both following the 3B's and trying their best in class.  If you have left-over party favors, they are always welcome to add to the treasure box.  We make a little ceremony out of it and clap for each child.  This is a great self-esteem builder!

Thank you all for the help and support you give to me and the children in Room K!  Mrs. W.
