"Ariel, please! Will you get your head out of the clouds and back in the water where it belongs" -Sebastian

Here we are the week before Spring Break and only two more letters to go! We are nearing completion of our Letter People Binders and will spend the next month reviewing the letters and sounds and allowing opportunities for catching up on pages missed due to absences. We are also finishing up our Handwriting Without Tears books Get Set for School. Again, we will review the books and make sure that each child has a complete book to display at Open House in May. All books will be taken home after that and I am sure your child will enjoy reviewing the books and playing "teacher" at home using all they have learned.
Additionally, we have been writing in the Writing Journals and many of the children are learning to write words and short sentences to describe their drawings.
We will continue to act our stories using our puppets. We are focusing on Fairy Tales this month, noticing that they usually start, "Once upon a time." and end with either, "The End" or "And they lived happily ever after." We are looking at the elements of plot, setting and character as well as common characteristics such as magical elements, the number 3 and the problems/solutions. This helps the children learn to create their own stories.
On our Starfall computer program, we have also started the Learn to Read section. Your child will enjoy showing you these games and stories at home.
Hopefully you will all send in 3 packages of wipes tomorrow and that will last us for the rest of the school year.
Reminders:
Tennis shoes and socks are best for the playground.
Provide napkins and eating utensils in your child's lunch.
Cut food into smaller pieces to enable them to eat easily.
Send water, especially on hot days.
Thank you for your wonderful support in and out of the classroom. Happy Spring!
