We are partners in development; the development of your child's school skills.  These skills are academic, social, emotional and physical.  At school we have many activities to support the children's growth.  We have a strong academic curriculum and in class intervention to support students who need extra help,, in Room K we use the Conscious Discipline program to give the children the tools they need to feel secure as members of our school family, we use Second Step (for empathy training) and The Way of Council to promote listening with our hearts and speaking our truths and we have lots of movement (P.E., yoga, dance, morning stretching/movement).  At home, you offer the best for your children as well.  It is this working together, that produces children who rise and succeed.  It is through our working together that no child in Room K will be at the risk of falling through the cracks.  I thank you all for your partnership in working with your amazing children!

Mr. G loves gooey gum!  You can listen to his song here.  This week we will be focusing on the /g/ sounds.  There is hard /g/ as in "gum," and soft /g/ as in giraffe.  We will talk about the differences.

We will have a lot of fun painting, drawing and decorating Halloween ghosts, pumpkins and bats.  During science, we will estimate the weight and diameter of our pumpkin and our own weight. Then we will see how close our estimations are to the real weights.

We will be finishing our Original Works art self-portraits and these will be sent home along with the order forms later in the week.  Please consider ordering items for the upcoming holidays.  They make memorable gifts!

Do you like to make playdough?  If so, we could use a new batch each week.  I use it for introducing the letters in our Handwriting Without Tears program, as well as for fun fine motor play.  I prefer the texture of homemade playdough to store bought.  Please let me know if you and your child would like to make some!

The Garden Committee is ordering a new sign for the garden.  As you know, Carolyn and Sue have been working with the children every Tuesday in our garden plot.  We have a lot of things growing!  We want to ensure the safety of our little plants and the beauty of the garden area, including all of the plots.  This area is not a play area.  After school, children are invited to have parent supervised play on the lower playground, attend S.T.A.R., play on the upper yard (2nd-5th) or meet for playdates at the Topanga Community Club.  Unfortunately, when children run around the garden after school, it creates an unsafe area and classroom garden plots suffer damage.  Please help to spread the word to other parents.
