We are beginning our month with many activities-starting with tomorrow's exciting field trip to the Noah's Ark exhibit at the Skirball Museum. This guided field trip leads the children on a focused team-building lesson divided into different activities. November is the perfect month for us to be thankful for our classmates with whom we spend 6 hours a day! This Wednesday we will be fortunate to see the 4th grade perform an opera that they have been working on with members of the LA Opera.
Next Thursday we will honor the Veterans and will have the day off from school. We will also have the entire week of Thanksgiving off due to LAUSD furlough days and the holiday.

AMC Theatres and the
Autism Society have teamed
up to bring families affected
by autism and other disabilities
and sensory issues a special
opportunity to enjoy their favorite
films in a safe and accepting
environment on a monthly basis.
Sensory Friendly Films®
will begin with a showing of
“Megamind” on November 6.
Autism is a complex
neurodevelopmental disability
that affects a person’s ability
to communicate and interact
with others. It often comes with
sensory challenges, such as
hypersensitivity to light or sound,
and children or adults affected
by autism may not understand
the social boundaries of movie
theatre etiquette, such as not
talking during the film or sitting
still through most of the show.
In order to provide a more
accepting and comfortable setting
for children with autism or other
special needs, AMC movie
auditoriums will have their lights
brought up and the sound turned
down, families will be able to bring
in their own gluten-free, caseinfree
snacks, and no previews or
advertisements will be shown
before the movie. Additionally,
audience members are welcome
to get up and dance, walk, shout
or sing - in other words, AMC’s
“Silence is Golden®” policy will
not be enforced unless the safety
of the audience is questioned.
Tickets are $6 and can be
purchased on the day of the event.
Autism Society and AMC Host
Two Sensory Friendly Films
“Megamind” will
play Saturday, November 6 at
10 am at AMC Promenade 16
Theatres at Westfield Promenade,
6100 Topanga Canyon Blvd.,
Woodland Hills. “Harry Potter
and the Deathly Hallows: Part
1” will show on Saturday,
November 20 at 10 a.m.

This seems like a great idea for all young children and might make a nice outing for Room K students and their families. Many children are sensitive to loud noises and dark theaters.
The year is flying by! Please be sure you are checking this blog/newsletter and the class calendar for upcoming events. A big thank you to Mario for copying our Alphabet Scrapbook pages and putting them in the children's notebooks, to Amy and Cheryl for helping so much with our field trips and classroom organization, for all of the wonderful classroom helpers that enable us to work with small groups of children daily and for all the parents helping us with our field trip supervision. I am thankful for all of my Room K families!
