Sharing: This week the Eeyores will share. You can find the assignment on our class calendar.
This week we will practice the sound of /Qq/ and how to write the letters properly. We will meet Mr. Q, who loves to ask questions. This is a great time to help your child distinguish the difference between questions and statements. Have your child ask questions that begin with who, what, when, where, why and how. Many times (especially during sharing) the children say they have a question, but they really just want to say something. Help your child practice good questions that give them added information about a discussion topic.
We will continue working in our rhyming books and our Picture Dictionary as well as using the listening center, Starfall and ABC Mouse to practice letters, sounds and words. A big thank you and congratulations to those who have been practicing reading using Raz-Kids at home. You are really showing improvement.
Math:
This week we will begin to explore geometry and shapes with some new materials from the Handwriting Without Tears company-4 Squares, More Squares. The children will explore spacial relationships and work together to solve problems. We will also continue number concepts and working in our Math Journals.
Art:
This week Dina and her fantastic art crew will help the children finish their art gallery projects to next week's art show in the Topanga Art Gallery. Every child will have their work displayed at the Gallery and all proceeds from the sale of art will go to TEP to support our school programs. A huge thank you to Dina for organizing this fun activity and for committing to teach art in our class each week. Thank you to those of you able to help with this great program.
Garden:
Did you know that Suzanna and Holden (Virgina's parents) have been working in our class garden with the children? They have been helping the children explore seeds and plant vegetables. The children love working in the garden and learn so much from working together to care for the plants.
Thank you to all of the parents who came out to help last week with our wonderfully simple Valentine's party and the active Jump Rope for Heart. It was a busy but fun week and I am so grateful to all of you, who make it possible and help Room K be the great learning environment it is.
