Hello Room K! We have all had a wonderful week 1 getting to know each other and learning our school rules:
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Almost every situation can be linked to one of these rules, so please use this language with your children at home to develop understanding through consistency.
We are exploring the different areas in the classroom. We have used the dramatic play area, the library area, the mini-computer lab and of course the carpet area. The children are learning to take care of classroom materials and to use safe classroom behavior such as using "walking feet."
On Thursday we took a tour of the lower campus and on Friday we practiced for our first fire drill (so it would not be too scary) and we went to the upper campus for our first fire drill and school-wide assembly in the auditorium.
The TK kids eat lunch at the picnic tables on our playground which gives them a longer time to eat and a close proximity to the bathrooms. It is quiet and self-contained. I will be asking for one volunteer to help us with extra playground supervision.
I would like to send out the Parent Volunteer Document for you to sign up for your volunteer time slot. Please send me your email address as soon as possible. I will also have a hard copy at school on Monday and for the remainder of the week.
My goal this year is to re-vamp the Kindergarten playground. I have a few ideas about this and would love to form a group of interested parents to help with the legwork. Please check out www.peacefulplaygrounds.org and let me know if you are willing to help to write a grant to help create the playground of our dreams filled with activities for all 85+ kindergarten children.
I am looking forward to a great year with all of the children and look forward to meeting all of you!
