Sharing:  Tiggers
Remember:  Our class picture is at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday.  There is no school on Thursday!

Here is Mr. D.  He is very dashing and loves to dance!  You can listen to his song here.  We will practice writing D, listening to the sound of /d/ and thinking of words that begin with Mr. D's sound.  During small group time we work in our rhyming books, journals, Alphabet-Dictionary, write in our Get Set for School printing practice book, incorporate technology websites, play reading games, read books and use a listening center.  It is a busy time!

Science:  This week in science, Ms. Monks will be talking about how scientists ask questions. The children will look at rocks and discuss what they already know about rocks and what questions they have about them. She will also talk about "question words" to help the children remember the difference between questions and statements.

Second Step:  Second Step is a program that focuses on empathy training.  We have 3 puppet friends:  Impulsive Puppy, who forgets rules, acts impulsively and is good- natured, Slow-Down Snail, who reminds Puppy to slow down and think before acting, and Be-Calm Bunny, a cute little stuffed animal that we use as a comfort-talking piece to discuss our feelings about the day's topic. Some of the topics we discuss are listening to others, sharing, how initiate play with new friends, and determining feelings by looking at body language.

Big Buddies:  Last week our Big Buddies interviewed us and they are going to write a short paragraph introduction about each Little Buddy.  This week they will read and introduce their Little Buddies.  The children really enjoy spending time with the big kids and besides talking, the Big Buddies read them stories and have a little play time on the yard.

Upcoming Field Trip:  Please return your child's field trip slip if you have not done so already.  We still have 2 open spots for chaperones if you would like to join us!

Our Garden:  Seeds have already sprouted in our garden!  It is so exciting to watch the
little plants begin to grow both in the garden, in our Root-Vue classroom garden and the classroom greenhouse.

Movement:  The children in Room K have lots of energy and we provide lots of movement opportunities!  We have morning stretch/movement every morning, P.E. with Coach Harold on Wednesday and Friday, Yoga with me on Wednesday, and Dance with Kristy on Thursday afternoon.  We have had two dance lessons and Kristy is teaching the children to dance their way through the alphabet.  I decided we will make a journal of each lesson as we go along.  Last week we learned B is for ballet, boogie-woogie and Bollywood!  The children had a great time dancing and I did too!

Thank you all for your help, support and commitment to your children.
Mrs. W.
