Welcome to Room K! 2016-2017 is going to be a great year filled with experiences, excitement, friendships and growth for us all. We had a fantastic first week of school and learned many classroom routines. I encourage all Room K families to read all papers sent home and this blog on a weekly basis to stay updated and to be the best support for your student. This is a year of growth for children and parents too!
If you have not done so already, please look through all of the tabs on this website so you will know classroom procedures, policies and routines.
Next week we will continue with assessments so I can form our four developmentally based learning groups: Winnie the Poohs, Eeyors, Piglets, and Tiggers. I will post the list next week so you will know which day your child will share beginning in September.
Parent Volunteers can start the 3rd week of school and we need you in Room K! We have reading group rotations and depend on parent volunteers to be at one of the stations. We also have math centers and afternoon help is always appreciated to work individually with students and to help with art projects during Learning Center time. I will post a sign up sheet later this week. Please attend the short volunteer training this Friday right after the Morning Assembly and turn in your TB test to the school office ASAP. No siblings during classroom volunteer time!
Save The Date!
October 21st we will be going on a field trip to our local Theatricum Botanicum for a fun-filled day of theater, dance and music based on the infamous Aesop's Fables. The entire kindergarten will participate and parents are welcome to attend as long as you have had your volunteer training and your TB test is on file with the office. We will ride on the school bus the short distance to the Theatricum and this is always a thrill for the children. Our trip is aligned with the Common Core Standards relating to storytelling and character analysis and incorporates the performing arts. All of our field trips are paid for by TEP (Topanga Enrichment Programs) so be sure you have paid your (tax-deductable )TEP dues!
Our goal is to make Room K the first class with 100% participation paying the TEP dues which fund our fabulous enrichment programs starting week 3 of school.
TEP pays for:
Science
P.E.
Classroom Aides
Library
Field Trips and so much more
If you have any questions about TEP, please talk to our Room Moms, Nikki Hexum (Maxine's mom) and Fuji Whittenburg (Farrah's mom) both of whom are on the TEP Board.
Upcoming:
Back to School Night-August 30th! Please have at least one parent attend (line up your babysitters now!)
