This week we will meet Ms. L. who has the longest laugh!  Can you help your child look for words that begin with the sound of /l/?  Bring the words into class and we can put them on our word wall!

This week we read Max's Words by Kate Banks. It is the story of a little boy who decides to collect words and then realizes that he can put his words together to form stories.  We wrote journal adventure stories with 3 sentences:  a beginning, middle and end.  These stories were dictated, and then illustrated by the children.  Phonemic awareness is the first step to reading, writing and spelling.  Do you have any books about words?  If you do, or if you check out some from the library, please come in and read the book to the children.  Children love to hear stories read by many different adults and older children.  The children are just beginning to realize that the letters and sounds they are learning, can be put together to form words, and the words can be put together to create sentences.  On Monday, we will read The Boy Who Loved Words by Roni Schotter.  This book is filled with an expanded vocabulary and will inspire the children to use new words.

Family-School Partnership:
Are you aware of this Act? This is a California law that allows parents and caregivers to take time off from work to participate in a child's school activities. This can be volunteering in the classroom, attending Parent Conferences or school Holiday Programs.  Our Holiday Program is coming up soon, on December 19th.  Please plan on attending.  Of course we love classroom volunteers too!

Lice:
You received a letter stating that lice have been found on students at our school.  While we have not had any in Room K, that I know of, the children all play together on the playground and many have friends at school that are not in our class.  The best way to keep lice from spreading is to check your child's head/hair daily.  Treat lice as soon as they are discovered.  I have heard that Honeycomb is an affordable and reputable place to have heads checked and treated.  Please do not be embarrassed to tell me.  We need to work together as a team to keep the children lice-free!

Planet-Bravo:
Many of the children want to practice their computer skills at home.  To go to the Planet Bravo site:
1.  Go to our class website
2.  Click on the "more" tab
3.  Select the "websites, iPad/iPod apps I like" choice
4.  A Planet-Bravo link is right there.
Once you go there, you can bookmark the site for faster access.

November is a month of gratitude.  I am very grateful to all of you for all that you do to make Room K a special place and all that you do to support your child's learning.  I enjoyed our parent-teacher conferences and look forward to future collaboration.

Mrs. W.
